ABSTRACT
The study, entitled ‘Praise Epithet: An Analysis of Female Royal Praise Singers’ like numerous others, aims at examining the folk culture of the Hausa people from a literary perspective, through the application of ethnographic theory for analysis. As a systematic theory that notes cultural practices in any given society. The study draws its data from six Hausa Emirate Councils: Kabin Argungu, Daura, Kazaure, Kano, Hadeja and Zazzau. The study therefore discusses the theme, style and structure of the text to analyses the import of the praise epithets. The theme, which is largely panegyric, eulogizes the Royal Lords with five variable; genealogical pedigree, bravery and capacity to face up challenges, ability to guide his subjects and protect their religion, administrative qualities and generosity towards the needy. In effect; the research further affirms that literature is a mirror that reflects the socio-political as well as the history and life of a community. Similarly, the work documents that women are also a factor to be reckoned within a Hausa Court.

Wa]annan duka, sun bayyana a kirarin, wanda ya }ara tabbatar da cewa idan ana neman al’adun al’umma da ma tarihinsu da zamantakewa da siyasa, adabi ne taskar da ke adana su. Ta fuskar adabi za a iske cewa an nazarci kusan mawa}an fada a duk fadar {asar Hausa, da ya ji~anci tarihinsu, da yadda suke shirya wa}o}insu, tare da jigonsu da salonsu da kayan ka]e-ka]e da na bushe-bushen da suke amfani da su. To sai dai kash! Wani abin mamaki shi ne, wa]annan ayyuka da aka yi, kusan duk sun tattaru ko ta}aita ne ga ayyukan da maza suke yi, wato gudunmuwar maza, alhali kuwa mata ma akwai babbar rawar da suke takawa a adabin fada da al’adunta a {asar Hausa. [aya daga cikin wannan rukuni na mata ita ce ‘Zabiyar Fada’ wadda ta fa]o cikin rukunin ‘yan ma’abba/bamba]o ko kuma ‘kwando’, masu yin kirarin baki. Zabiyar Fada kuwa ba }ashin yardawa ba ce a fada, domin tana ]aya daga cikin wa]anda ke }ara wa Sarki kwarjini da }ima a idon talakawansa da sauran jama’a baki ]aya. Baya ga zuga shi, ya }ara ji babu kamarsu cikin jama’arsa, ta hanyar amfani da sigogin nan na cim ma yabo, wato: asali da ri}o da addini da jaruntaka da kyauta da kuma }warewa ga ri}on jama’a (iya mulki), wa]anda za a iya cewa mizani ne da talaka ke auna saraki a {asar Hausa. Babban aikin Zabiya a fada shi ne fito da Sarki daga cikin gida zuwa majalisa duk safiya, ta kuma mayar da shi bayan an kammala zaman fada. Idan kuma tafiya
ta kama shi, takan raka shi ya hau doki ko ya shiga mota. A lokacin da ya dawo gida, ita za ta tarbe shi zuwa gida, sannan ta mi}a shi hannun Jakadiya. A ta}aice, ita ke sanar da sauran jama’a, musamman fadawa fitowar Sarki zuwa majalisa, ko wani wuri da komowarsa, ta hanyar amfani da kirarinta.
Akwai Zabiyoyi biyu a Hausa. Ta farko ita ce wadda take jagoranci wa}a, ta biyu kuma ita ce matar da a bisa al’ada, a kan ajiye a fada, domin yi wa saraki ka]ai kirari. Wannan bincike idan ya ambaci ‘Zabiya’, yana nufin ta biyun. Binciken, mai kanun, ‘Kirarin Saraki a Bakin Mata: Nazarin Zabiyanci a {asar Hausa’, ya yi amfani da wata al’adar fada, wato ‘zabiyanci’, a matsayin ‘madubi’, aka nazarci adabin da ke ciki (kirarin saraki), domin fito da rayuwar al’umma, kasancewa adabi shi ke bayyana rayuwar al’umma da ma tarihinsu.
